Alright, listen up, y’all. We gonna talk about this “em-ell-bee singer national anthem” thing, whatever that means. Sounds fancy, but I reckon it’s just about folks singin’ that song before a baseball game. You know, the one with the “rockets’ red glare” and all that.
Singin’ That Song, It Ain’t Easy
Now, I ain’t no singer, mind you. My singin’ would make a cat yowl and run for the hills. But I can tell ya, singin’ that anthem, it ain’t no walk in the park. It’s a tough song, high notes and low notes, and you gotta remember all them words. And Lord knows, some folks just butcher it somethin’ awful. I heard one fella, sounded like a strangled goose, poor thing. He was tryin’ his best, I guess, but it just wasn’t pretty.
Some singers, though, they do a real good job. They got powerful voices, clear as a bell, and they make that song sound real purty. I remember hearin’ one on the TV, a woman, and she just knocked it outta the park. Made me wanna stand up and salute, even though I was just sittin’ in my recliner eatin’ popcorn. That’s what a good singer can do, make you feel somethin’ in your heart.
The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly
- The Good Ones: These singers, they know what they’re doin’. They practice, they got strong voices, and they sing with feelin’. They hit all them notes just right and make you proud to be an American, or whatever country you’re from. They make the song sound respectful, like it should be.
- The Bad Ones: Then you got the ones who, well, they try. Bless their hearts, they try. But maybe they ain’t got the voice for it, or maybe they forgot the words, or maybe they just nervous as a long-tailed cat in a room full of rockin’ chairs. Whatever the reason, it ain’t pretty.
- The Ugly Ones: And then…oh honey, then you got the ones that make you wanna cover your ears and hide under the bed. They screech, they squawk, they forget the words, they change the words, they do everything wrong. It’s like listenin’ to a train wreck, you know it’s bad but you just can’t look away. And the worst part? Folks on the internet, they just rip ’em to shreds. Say all kinds of mean things. It ain’t right, but that’s how it is these days.
Why It Matters
Now, some folks might say, “It’s just a song, what’s the big deal?” But I think it’s more than that. That song, it’s about our country, about our history, about the folks who fought and died for our freedom. It’s supposed to make you feel something. And when someone sings it bad, it feels disrespectful, you know? Like they don’t care. It’s important to do it right, or not do it at all. Like bakin’ a pie – you gotta follow the recipe, or it ain’t gonna turn out good.
Country Singers and the Anthem
Seems like a lot of times, it’s them country singers who get asked to sing the anthem. Maybe ’cause they got that strong, clear voice that carries well in a big stadium. And a lot of ’em do a real fine job. But even the best of ’em can have an off day. I heard tell of one country singer, real famous one, who messed up the words. Folks were on her like white on rice, but hey, everybody makes mistakes. She’s still a good singer, just had a bad moment, happens to the best of us.
Rememberin’ the Words
I tell ya, the hardest part about singin’ that song is rememberin’ all them words. It’s like a whole history lesson crammed into a few verses. And if you get ’em wrong, folks will sure let you know about it. I remember tryin’ to sing it once at a school assembly, back when I was a little girl. Got halfway through and just blanked out. Stood there like a bump on a log, red as a beet. Never tried singin’ in public again after that.
It’s All About Respect
So, at the end of the day, it ain’t about bein’ perfect. It’s about showin’ respect for the song, for the country, and for the folks who fought for our freedom. If you gonna sing it, sing it from the heart, and do your best. And if you can’t do that, well then, maybe just leave it to the professionals. That’s what I always say.
Just Enjoy the Game
And if the singin’ ain’t so good? Well, just eat your hot dog, drink your soda, and enjoy the baseball game. That’s what I do. Life’s too short to get all worked up about a bad note or two.
