Alright, let’s talk about this fella, Geronimo dos Santos. Now, I ain’t no fancy fight expert or nothin’, but I can tell ya what I’ve heard and what I can piece together from all this talk.
First off, they got all this stuff about his “bio.” Sounds fancy, right? Basically, it’s just tellin’ ya about the fella – where he’s from, when he was born, how big he is, ya know? Like, is he a tall drink o’ water or a short stack? Height and weight, they call it. And his hometown, where he grew up, probably played in the dirt just like my grandkids.
Then there’s this “weight class” thing. Guess that means they sort these fellas out by how heavy they are, so’s they ain’t fightin’ no little guy against a giant, ya know? Fair’s fair, even in a fight. They say Geronimo dos Santos is a fighter, a Pro MMA Fighter outta some place called Feira de Santana, Bahia. Sounds far off, probably hot and dusty.
They got numbers too, all sorts of ’em. Like 45-26-1. Don’t ask me what it all means, but it sounds like he’s been in a scrap or two. Probably got more scars than my old tomcat. And they talk about “strikes” – how many times he hits the other fella, and how good he is at hittin’ and not gettin’ hit. Significant Strikes Landed per Minute, they call it – SLpM for short. Sounds like a lot of jabber to me, but I guess it matters to them fightin’ folks.
- They measure how often he hits – Significant Striking Accuracy, or Str. Acc.
- And how often he gets hit – Significant Strikes Absorbed per Minute, SApM.
- And how good he is at blockin’ those hits – Significant Strike Defence, or Str. Def. Sounds like a good turtle, that one.
Now, there’s another Geronimo, this fella was a leader, a religious and military leader of some tribe, the Chiricahua Apache. Lived way back when, in the 1800s. This Geronimo, he fought too, but not in no ring. He was fightin’ to keep his people and their land safe from the U.S. Army. Born in a place called No-Doyohn Canyon, they say. Had a different name too, Goyahkla, means “One Who Yawns.” Imagine that, a fighter called Yawner! But don’t let the name fool ya, he was tough as nails, they say. Resisted anyone who tried to take his people’s land.
This Geronimo, the Apache one, he was a spiritual leader too, and a tenacious fighter. Sounds like he knew how to talk the talk and walk the walk. Led his people’s defense, they say. But some folks didn’t like him so much, said he wouldn’t give in to the government. Guess he was a stubborn old mule, just like my Jedediah was. But that’s what made him strong, I reckon.
So you got two Geronimos here, both fighters in their own way. One’s punchin’ in a ring, the other was fightin’ for his people’s survival. Different times, different fights, but both tough as they come, seems like. ESPN, they talk about the fighter Geronimo dos Santos, give you all his fightin’ details. And history remembers the Apache Geronimo, a fearless leader who stood his ground. Two different stories, two different fellas, but both named Geronimo, and both fighters, that’s for sure.
This whole fightin’ business, it ain’t for the faint of heart. Whether you’re punchin’ in a ring or fightin’ for your land, you gotta be tough, gotta be determined. And these two Geronimos, they sure seem to fit that bill. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go shoo those chickens outta my garden.
