Well, howdy there! Let’s jaw about somethin’ real special – them fellas from Alabama who done won that fancy Heisman Trophy. You know, that there trophy they give to the best college football player? Yep, that’s the one.
Alabama’s Heisman Heroes: A Real Special Bunch
Now, Alabama, they got themselves a whole mess of good football players, but only a few lucky ones get to hold that Heisman. It’s a big deal, y’all. Let me tell ya ‘bout ‘em, one by one, like I remember it.
First off, there was Mark Ingram back in 2009. That boy could run like a scalded dog! He was the first fella from Alabama to ever win it. Folks ‘round here were just hoppin’ and hollerin’ ‘bout it. He was a running back, you see, carried the ball a whole bunch. They said it was a real close race, but he pulled it off. Imagine that, a young fella from our own state, the best in the whole dang country!
Then, come 2015, we got ourselves another one – Derrick Henry. Oh, that boy was somethin’ else! Big and strong, like a bull in a china shop, but fast too! He was another running back, just plowin’ through them fellas on the other team. Folks said he was unstoppable, and I reckon they were right. He won that Heisman fair and square, and made us all proud again.
- Mark Ingram (2009) – The first fella from Alabama to win it. A real good running back.
- Derrick Henry (2015) – Big and strong, another running back who was just plain hard to tackle.
Now, things got a little different after that. See, most of the time, it’s them quarterback fellas who win the Heisman. But Alabama, we do things a bit different sometimes. In 2020, a wide receiver, a fella named DeVonta Smith, he won it! Can you believe that? A receiver! He was catchin’ balls all over the place, runnin’ like the wind. They said he had hands like glue, never dropped a thing. He was somethin’ special, that’s for sure.
And then, just a year later, in 2021, we got another one – this time it was a quarterback, Bryce Young. He was a smart one, that boy, could throw the ball right where it needed to be. He led the team real good, and they won a whole bunch of games. He deserved that Heisman, no doubt about it.
- DeVonta Smith (2020) – A wide receiver, fast as lightning and could catch anything thrown his way.
- Bryce Young (2021) – A real smart quarterback who could throw the ball like nobody’s business.
So, that’s it, y’all. Four fellas from Alabama who won the Heisman Trophy. Mark Ingram, Derrick Henry, DeVonta Smith, and Bryce Young. That’s a whole lot of talent, ain’t it? We’re real proud of them ‘round here. They worked hard, played their hearts out, and brought that trophy home to Alabama.
Now, they talk about other fellas who won it from other places, like that Archie Griffin fella who won it twice! Imagine that, winning it twice! And that Johnny Manziel, they said he was just a freshman when he won it. Youngsters these days, they’re somethin’ else, I tell ya. But we’re talkin’ ‘bout Alabama boys here, and them four we got, they’re the best in my book.
The Heisman Hopefuls: Who’s Next?
Every year, we start wonderin’ who might be the next Alabama fella to win that Heisman. We watch them games, cheer ‘em on, and hope one of our boys gets the nod. It’s exciting, y’all, never know what’s gonna happen. But one thing’s for sure, Alabama, we got ourselves a good football program, and we’ll keep on producin’ them Heisman-worthy players, you just wait and see.
So next time you hear ‘em talkin’ ‘bout the Heisman Trophy, you remember them Alabama boys. They done us proud, and they’ll keep on doin’ us proud, I reckon. That’s all I got to say ‘bout that. Y’all take care now, ya hear?
