Alright, let’s talk about this Devin Hester fella, you know, the football guy. Folks keep jabberin’ on about him, so I figured I’d put in my two cents, even though I ain’t no expert, mind you.
Devin Hester, that kick return whiz!
Now, they tell me this Devin Hester, he played for some team, drafted way back in 2006. Spent a good long while with ’em, eight seasons they say. That’s a mighty long time to be runnin’ around on a field, if you ask me. And what’s all this fuss about? Well, they say he’s got the most touchdowns, not from catchin’ or throwin’ the ball like regular fellas, but from runnin’ it back. Twenty of ‘em! Can you believe that? Twenty!
They call these “non-offensive” touchdowns. Sounds fancy, but all it means is he didn’t get the ball like the quarterback or them other fellas. He got it when the other team kicked it or punted it and then, bam! He’d take off like a greased pig at a county fair.
- He played for eight seasons.
- Folks call him the best at runnin’ back kicks.
- Got a whole bunch of touchdowns doing it.
Now, I hear tell there’s this Hall of Fame, a place where they put all the really good players. And this Devin Hester, he’s in there! They say he’s the only fella who mostly just ran back kicks to get in. Imagine that! A whole career just runnin’ back kicks and punts. Must’ve been pretty darn good at it, I reckon.
Is he the best ever? Well, some folks say so.
They keep blabberin’ on about how he’s the best ever at this kick returnin’ thing. Now, I don’t know about all that, but they got numbers to back it up, I guess. Some other fella, Brian Mitchell, he ran back kicks for a long, long time and got lots of yards, but Devin, he got more touchdowns. And that seems to be what matters most these days.
Fourteen punt return touchdowns! That’s a whole lot of runnin’, let me tell ya. And five of them touchdowns, he got in his first year! Fresh outta the gate and already scorin’ like nobody’s business. That’s what they call makin’ a splash, I believe.
Kick returns ain’t easy, you know.
Now, you might think runnin’ back a kick is easy, just catch the ball and run. But it ain’t so simple. You got eleven big fellas comin’ at ya, tryin’ to knock you into next week. You gotta be quick, gotta be shifty, and gotta have some guts, that’s for sure. And this Devin Hester, he had all that and more, it seems.
So, what’s the big deal with Devin Hester?
Well, from what I can gather, he was somethin’ special. A real game-changer. He could turn a game around in a heartbeat with one of them fancy runs. And that’s why folks are still talkin’ about him, even years after he stopped playin’. He made kick returns excitin’, and that ain’t somethin’ you see every day.
He wasn’t just good, he was excitin’. People would get out of their seats when he got the ball, ‘cause you never knew what he was gonna do. He could make somethin’ outta nothin’, and that’s a rare talent, no matter what you’re doin’.
Anyways, that’s my take on this Devin Hester fella. A real whiz at runnin’ back kicks, they say. The best ever? Maybe so. All I know is, he sure made football a little more excitin’, and that’s a good thing in my book.
