Well, let me tell you about this Mantle baseball thing. That boy, Mickey, he sure could hit a ball. I heard folks talkin’, said he’s the best they ever seen. He was somethin’ else, that Mantle boy. I seen him play on that little black and white TV, you know the one with the rabbit ears. He could run like a deer, too. I tell ya, it was excitin’ to watch him play. My husband, god rest his soul, he was a big fan, always yellin’ at the TV screen. We all loved that Mantle baseball stuff.
This Mantle fella, he played for that New York team, the Yankees. They was always winnin’ back then. Seems like he played forever, too. They say he got hurt a lot, but he kept on playin’. Tough as nails, that one. I don’t know much about all them numbers and things, but I know he hit a lot of home runs. Lots and lots of ’em. Made the crowd go wild, he did.
He was a good boy, from what I hear. Even when he got famous and all that. Never got too big for his britches. That’s important, you know. Treat people right, no matter what. He was a hero to a lot of folks, especially the young’uns. They all wanted to be like Mickey, playin’ Mantle baseball.
Now, them baseball cards, they’re worth a fortune now! I seen ’em on that antique show on the TV. A little piece of cardboard, and people payin’ big money for ’em. Crazy, ain’t it? I reckon those Mantle baseball cards are like gold to some folks. I wish my husband was here, he would love to see all this. He had a whole bunch of cards, but I threw them out after he passed. I had no clue back then. If I had known, maybe we wouldn’t be in this mess.
- That 1952 Topps card, they say that’s the one everybody wants.
- His first one, they call it a rookie card.
- Sounds kinda silly to me, but what do I know?
They got books about him, too. All about this Mantle baseball. All them cards he had, every single one of ’em. Imagine that! They even made a movie about him, teachin’ kids how to play. He was always doin’ somethin’, that Mickey. I remember one time, my grandson, he wanted to play just like him. Tried to teach him, but I ain’t no Mickey Mantle!
You know, back in my day, we didn’t have all this fancy stuff. Just a bat, a ball, and a field. That’s all you needed for Mantle baseball. Kids these days, they got all them video games and what not. It ain’t the same, I tell ya. We used to play ’til it got dark, and our mamas would yell at us to come in for supper. Those were good times, simple times.
This Mantle, he reminds me of them days. He was just a good ol’ boy who loved to play ball. Didn’t need no fancy equipment or nothin’. Just pure talent, that’s what he had. You can’t buy that, no sir. That is just god’s gift. That’s why this Mantle baseball is so special, I reckon. He was one of a kind.
I heard some folks say he’s the reason people started collectin’ them cards. Made ’em popular, I guess. He was just that good, that famous. Everybody wanted a piece of him. Can’t say I blame ’em. I wanted him to win all the time, when I saw him on TV. He was like a part of our family. We all loved this Mantle baseball thing.
- He had hundreds of them cards, they say.
- From 1951 all the way to 1969.
- That’s a long time to be playin’ ball.
He hit lots of home runs. Some say over 500. He was a strong one, they say. One thing is for sure, he could hit that little white ball. I saw one time, he hit it and I thought, that thing ain’t never going to come down! My husband used to say that this Mantle baseball stuff is the best entertainment.
He was a good player, that Mickey. One of the best, they say. I don’t know about all that, but I know he was fun to watch. He made the game excitin’. That’s what matters, right? And he was kind to people, that is the most important thing. He had a good heart. That’s what I remember most about that Mantle baseball. He made us all happy when he played. He brought people together, rootin’ for the same team. That’s a special thing, ain’t it?
