Well, let me tell you, I been watchin’ them Washington Redskins, or whatever they call ’em now, for a long, long time. Used to be called Redskins, then they was the Football Team, now they’re somethin’ else. Hard to keep up! But one thing ain’t changed, they always had some good runners. That’s what we’re talkin’ about today, them Redskins running backs history.
I remember this one fella, John Riggins, they called him. Big ol’ boy. He played back in the 70s and 80s, I reckon. He was a runnin’ fool, that one! Ran all over them other teams. They say he ran for a whole heap of yards. Think it was over a thousand? Might be. Somethin’ like that. One of the best Redskins running backs, I guess. Yep, that John Riggins, he was somethin’ else.
- John Riggins, that’s a name I remember.
- Ran for a lot of yards.
- Played a long time ago.
They had other good ones too, ‘course. Can’t remember all their names. But this team, they always had fellas who could run that ball. That’s what you need in football, strong legs and a good runnin’ back. Them Washington running backs, they knew how to do it.
They had these lists, you know. Show you who ran the most in a year, who ran the most their whole time playin’. They call it “single-season” and “career” somethin’ or other. Fancy words for sayin’ who’s the best at runnin’ that ball. Important for that Redskins running backs history.
One fella, Emmitt Smith, he played for another team but he’s worth sayin’. I heard he ran more than anybody in the whole darn league! Over 18,000 yards, that is a lot of ground to cover. Nobody’s come close since he stopped playin’. He sure set the bar high for all them other running backs.
This team, the Redskins, they had all kinds of names through the years. Boston somethin’, then Redskins, then somethin’ else. But that ain’t important. What’s important is they had some good players. They won some championships too, back in the 80s, I think. Them runners they had back then, they helped win them games. They was part of that Redskins history.
Now, these young folks today, they got all these numbers and lists and things. They keep track of everything. Who ran the most, who threw the farthest, who caught the most balls. It’s all written down somewhere. They are always talking about Washington Commanders running backs. They keep track of the team’s history like a hawk.
- They changed their name a few times.
- They won championships in the 80s.
- They keep lots of lists about the players.
I seen a list one time, showed all the runnin’ leaders for each year. Goes all the way back to when they was in Boston, I think. Lots of names on that list. Some I remember, some I don’t. But all part of that Washington running backs history.
Back in the old days, they didn’t have all these fancy numbers. You just watched the game and you knew who was good. You could see it in their eyes, in the way they ran. Them old-time running backs, they was tough. They didn’t need no list to tell you they was good.
But I guess these lists are good for somethin’. Helps you remember the old players. Helps you see who was the best. And it helps you learn about the history of the team. That Washington Redskins running backs history, it’s a long one. Lots of good players in it.
So, next time you watch them play, whoever they are now, remember them old runners. Remember John Riggins and all them other fellas. They paved the way for the young’uns today. They’re all part of that running backs history. That is important, I tell you.
Nowadays, those Washington Commanders running backs are good too. I like watching them play. I hope they can keep up with the team’s history. It is a tough one.
