That year, 1964, that’s the year they talk about. 1964 Topps Mickey Mantle, that’s the one. The card, it’s from Topps. You know, the one the kids like. This here card, it has the number 50 on it. Number 50 Mickey Mantle. Heard it’s a big deal. Some folks, they go crazy for these things. They collect ’em, like how I used to collect them glass jars for canning. Only these cards, they ain’t for puttin’ up no preserves, no sir. They just sit there, I reckon.
And the older them cards, the more money folks will pay for ’em. It’s like my old quilts, the ones my mama made. Them’s worth more now than when they was new. Same with these 1964 Mickey Mantle baseball cards. They say the older they are, the more money you get for ’em. Crazy world, ain’t it?

They got this thing, it’s called PSA. Don’t ask me what them letters stand for. I don’t know nothin’ about these fancy terms. But they grade them cards. Like how you grade eggs. Some are better than others, I guess. And these fellas, they’ll tell you how much your Mickey Mantle card is worth. They look and see how good it is. They say a perfect one, a GEM – MT 10 is what they call it. But ain’t nobody got one of them. Them would be worth more than my whole farm!
And you know what? They say these Mickey Mantle cards, even the ones from the ’50s, like 1953, they’re worth a lot too. Even if they ain’t in the best shape. I saw one fella sayin’ he paid somethin’ like 12 million dollars for one of them! For a piece of cardboard! Can you imagine? I could buy a whole new tractor with that kinda money.

This whole thing, this card collectin’ business, they say it’s worth a billion dollars a year. A billion! That’s more money than I ever seen in my whole life. All them folks, buyin’ and sellin’ these little cards. That 1964 Mickey Mantle, he must have been some kind of special to have all this fuss over him.
I don’t know much about baseball, truth be told. But I know that name, Mickey Mantle. And I know 1964 was a big year for him. Seems like everybody’s lookin’ for that 1964 Topps Mickey Mantle card. They say it’s like findin’ a four-leaf clover, only worth a whole lot more.
So, if you got any of them old baseball cards layin’ around, you best check ’em. You might have a 1964 Mickey Mantle, and that could be worth a pretty penny. That’s what them collectors are looking for. It’s like a treasure hunt. And you might have some of that treasure in your attic and not even know. If you find one let me know, would ya? I sure would like to see one of them cards that are worth that much money. It would be somethin’ to see.
This whole thing is just somethin’. Never thought I’d see the day when a piece of cardboard with a picture of a baseball player on it would be worth more than a good cow.
