Okay, so, I wanted to try out this “fantasy draft” thing in Madden 24 with my buddy. We’re both pretty big football fans, but we’ve never done a fantasy draft before. I did a little digging online, just to get the gist of it. I found some stuff about researching player rankings and some basic drafting strategies. Sounded simple enough, right?

First Steps: Setting up
First, we had to figure out how to even do this thing. We’re playing on the same console, so it was pretty easy. We just turned on both controllers and moved the icons to the home and away teams. I think if you’re playing online with someone who’s not in the same room, it’s a bit different, but we didn’t have to worry about that.
The Draft: Where things got interesting
So, the draft starts. We’re both staring at the screen, trying to make sense of all these players and their stats. I saw some advice online about focusing on the first 10 rounds, so that’s what I tried to do.
- Round 1: I grabbed a top-tier quarterback. Figured that was a safe bet. My friend went for a star running back.
- Rounds 2-5: I started picking up some solid wide receivers and a decent tight end. My buddy was loading up on defensive players.
- Rounds 6-10: This is where it got tricky. I was trying to balance my offense and defense, but it felt like I was just guessing half the time. My friend seemed to have a better strategy, snagging some good cornerbacks and linebackers.
Playing the Game: Chaos!
After the draft, we started playing. Let me tell you, our teams were… interesting. My offense was okay, but my defense was a mess. My buddy’s team was the opposite. His defense was crushing me, but his offense couldn’t get anything going.
We played a few games, and it was a total mixed bag. Some games were close, others were complete blowouts. It was fun, but also kind of frustrating. I definitely felt like I didn’t really know what I was doing during the draft.
What I Learned
So, after all that, what did I learn? Well, I realized that this fantasy draft stuff is way more complicated than it looks. You really need to have a solid plan and understand the players’ strengths and weaknesses. I’m sure there are all sorts of advanced strategies that we didn’t even touch on.

Honestly, it was a fun experiment, but I think next time we’ll do a bit more research before diving in. Maybe watch some videos of experienced players doing their drafts, or read some more in-depth guides. We might even try a mock draft or two, just to get a better feel for it. Or, you know, we might just stick to regular franchise mode. It’s a lot less work!
