Okay, so I wanted to share this little adventure I had today with the “wood source” crossword clue. I’m not exactly a crossword whiz, but I do enjoy the New York Times one every now and then. It’s a nice way to kill some time, you know?
So, I started my day like any other, made some coffee, and decided to tackle the crossword. Things were going pretty smoothly, got a few answers here and there. Then, bam! I hit this clue: “wood source”. My mind immediately went blank. I mean, it’s such a simple concept, right? But for some reason, I just couldn’t crack it.
I tried a few different things. First, I thought maybe it was something related to types of wood, like “OAK” or “PINE”, but nope, those didn’t fit. Then I considered things that produce wood, like “AXE” or “SAW”, still no luck. I even started looking around my room for inspiration, which was pretty silly, I admit. My desk? Nope. My bookshelf? Nada.
After staring at the puzzle for what felt like an eternity, I decided to look it up online. I know, I know, some people say it’s cheating, but I was really stuck! I typed “wood source nyt crossword” into the search bar and hit enter.
Found a bunch of websites that offer crossword solutions. I scrolled through a few of them, and it looked like there were tons of possible answers. One site mentioned that this clue had shown up on March 31st, and then again on March 30, 2024. It’s always interesting to see how these clues recycle, huh?
Another page listed about 40 different possibilities. 40! That’s way more than I expected. It was a bit overwhelming, to be honest. I saw some other sites talking about a 7-letter answer and a 4-letter answer. One of them even mentioned it appeared in the Premier Sunday Crossword on December 22nd. They really keep track of this stuff!
Finally, I stumbled upon a site that seemed to have the most straightforward answer. I clicked on it, and there it was, staring right back at me. It was one of those “duh” moments where you feel a little silly for not getting it sooner.
I filled in the answer, and it was such a relief! Turns out this time it was “TREE” in my puzzle. It was like a weight had been lifted off my shoulders.
Anyway, that’s my little crossword story for today. I learned that sometimes the simplest clues can be the most challenging, and that it’s okay to ask for help when you’re stuck. And hey, maybe I’ll even start paying more attention to when these clues were last used. You never know when that information might come in handy!
