So, I’ve been wanting to make something cool for my wall, and I thought, why not try a neon sign? And not just any neon sign, a Nate Diaz one. Yeah, the MMA fighter. I’m a huge fan, and I figured it would be a fun project.
First off, I started looking around for inspiration. I mean, where do you even start with something like this? I browsed through a bunch of Nate Diaz stuff, like shirts, posters, and all that fan gear. There’s a ton of it out there, you know? T-shirts, hoodies, even some official stuff from his own line. I even saw some vegan stuff because I know he is vegan.

After getting a good idea of what I wanted, I started sketching. I’m no artist, but I managed to draw something that resembled Nate Diaz. I focused on his recognizable features, like his stance and his tattoos. I wanted the neon sign to capture his badass vibe.
Next, I had to figure out how to actually make the neon sign. I watched some tutorials online, and it seemed doable, but I needed the materials. I ordered some EL wire, which is like a flexible neon tube, and a battery pack to power it. I also got some wire and tools to shape the design.
When the materials arrived, I got to work. I started by shaping the wire frame based on my sketch. It was trickier than I thought, but I eventually got it right. Then, I attached the EL wire to the frame, carefully following the lines of my design.
