Okay, so I wanted to figure out the whole tide situation in New Haven, CT. You know, when’s high tide, when’s low tide, that sort of thing. I figured it’d be useful to know, especially if you’re planning any trips to the beach or anything near the water around there.
First off, I started looking around for a decent tide chart. I needed something that showed the tides for New Haven Harbor. It’s a pretty popular spot, so I figured there must be some good info out there. And yeah, I found a few that were pretty detailed. They showed the times and heights for both high and low tides.
Then I got to checking out some tide predictions. I saw that there are these things called “tide tables” that the NOAA puts out every year. Apparently, they’re super accurate, and everyone from sailors to regular folks use them. I found one of these tables for New Haven, and it was pretty cool to see how the tides change over time.
But here’s a little something I picked up: as the sea levels are getting a little different, the tide times could also get a bit wonky in the future. They are trying to make adjustments for the water depth changes and all that, but you know, it’s not like predicting the weather.
- The first step was to find a tide chart.
- The second step was to understand tide predictions using NOAA’s tables.
- The last step was learning about how sea-level rise might affect these predictions.
Anyway, I also saw that there is a way to figure out the tide height in between high and low tide. So you take the time between high and low tide and divide it into 12 parts. Then, depending on where you are in that 12-part cycle, you can guess the tide height. Kind of neat, huh? Oh, and they usually measure tide levels compared to the lowest water level, just so you know.
So yeah, that’s basically what I did. I just wanted to get a good handle on the tide situation in New Haven. It was interesting to learn all this stuff, and it’ll definitely be useful to know if I’m ever planning anything by the water there.
