Okay, so today I decided to mess around with “griffin herring baseball.” Honestly, I didn’t even know what it really was at first. It sounded like some weird combination of words, maybe a made-up game? I started by, you guessed it, hitting up the search engine. I typed in “griffin herring baseball” and…well, it wasn’t super clear.

I scrolled through a bunch of stuff, but mostly it just used the terms together but not much for context, so I started to look at the words on their own.
Breaking It Down
- Griffin: I mean, we all know what a griffin is, right? Mythical creature, lion body, eagle head and wings. Classic.
- Herring: This one’s a fish. A silvery, kinda small fish that swims in big schools.
- Baseball: I played sandlot games with friends in my younger years, and still watch pro games, so I know the rules.
So, my brain is trying to put these things together. A mythical beast, a fish, and a sport…? How would that look like? So my thought went like this:
I pictured a griffin, majestic and all, trying to swing a baseball bat. Maybe it’s using its talons? Does it wear a tiny baseball cap? That part was fun to imagine.
Then the herring comes in. Is it the ball? Are we supposed to hit the herring with the bat? That seems… messy. And kind of unfair to the herring. So I am thinking it must be a type of batting practice. Kind of like how a batting machine shoots out baseballs, this must be the same thing, but instead, a griffin is pitching herrings at the batter.
I spent a good chunk of time just letting my imagination run wild with this. It got me nowhere in reality, of course.

I felt kind of silly with it, but that’s okay. That’s part of the fun, right? Just letting your brain go on these little adventures.
This “griffin herring baseball” thing, to me, became more about the process of discovery (or lack thereof) and the fun of just imagining something totally ridiculous, based on the most basic of knowledge.
