Okay, so I’ve been wanting to get a golf simulator setup at home for a while now. I live in Milwaukee, and let’s be honest, the winters here are brutal. Golfing outdoors is a no-go for like half the year. So, I started looking into indoor options.

My Golf Sim Journey Begins
First, I did some online digging. Checked out a bunch of different simulator brands and models, read some reviews, you know, the usual stuff. It got overwhelming pretty quickly. There are so many options and price points!
Then, I started thinking about the space I had. I don’t have a massive basement or anything, but I figured I could clear out a corner of the garage. I measured the area, making sure I had enough height and width for a decent swing. That was a whole thing in itself – moving stuff around, getting rid of old junk. My wife was thrilled, ha!
I took down all my messurements including height, width and depth for future usage.
Hitting the (Virtual) Links
Next up, I actually went to a few local stores that sell golf simulators. I wanted to try some out and get a feel for what I liked. The staff at these places were pretty helpful, letting me hit some balls and answering my (many) questions. This was a great idea, it’s much different to try it and feel it yourself.
After trying a few different simulators, I finally settled on one. It wasn’t the cheapest, but it had the features I wanted and seemed like good quality. Plus, the software looked pretty realistic, which was important to me. I went for more expensive one, I felt I was not professional, just play for fun, and didn’t want too complex functionalities.

Installation was… an experience. I decided to do it myself to save some money. Let me tell you, it was more work than I expected! Putting up the screen, setting up the projector, getting the computer connected – it took a good chunk of a weekend. But hey, I got it done!
Tee Time at Home!
Now, I can golf anytime I want, regardless of the weather. It’s awesome! I’ve been practicing my swing, playing virtual rounds on famous courses, and even having some friends over for some friendly competition. It’s definitely not the same as being out on a real course, but it’s a pretty good substitute, especially when it’s snowing outside.
If the weather is not good, I would turn it on to play a few rounds to keep up.
The best part? No more waiting for tee times or dealing with slow play! I can just hop on the simulator whenever I have a free hour. It’s been a game-changer for my golf game (and my sanity) during the long Milwaukee winters.
