Okay, so I’ve been trying to get my swing right, and I kept seeing this name pop up: Louis Oosthuizen. Figured I’d spend a day digging into his swing and see if I could pick up anything useful.
Deep Dive into Louis Oosthuizen’s Swing
First thing I did was watch a bunch of videos. Just slow-motion replays of his swing, over and over. I must have watched for like, two hours straight. Just trying to absorb it, you know?
Then, I started to focus on specific parts. Like, how does he start his backswing? His takeaway is super smooth. No jerking or anything. It’s all one piece. I tried to mimic that in my living room, just getting the feel of that smooth start.
Next, I noticed his posture. He’s really balanced. It’s not like he’s leaning too far forward or back. He sets up the golf posture very stably. So, I went out to my backyard and tried to get that same balanced feeling. Used my phone to record myself and see if I looked anything like him. (Spoiler: I didn’t, not at first anyway.)
- Smooth takeaway: Practiced this for about 30 minutes, just focusing on that initial movement.
- Balanced posture: Spent a good hour on this, trying to adjust my stance and get that solid feel.
After messing around with my posture, I started working on the downswing. Louis’s is so powerful, but it looks effortless. I read somewhere that it’s all about the sequence. Like, the lower body starts first, then the torso, then the arms. I tried to visualize that, and then, very slowly, tried to replicate it.
I was hitting balls on the range, really trying to feel that sequence. It’s tough! My brain kept wanting to just swing with my arms, like I usually do. But I kept at it, focusing on starting the downswing with my hips.
Honestly, I didn’t see any immediate miracles. My shots were still all over the place. But, I did start to feel…different. Like, I was generating power in a new way. It wasn’t perfect, but it felt promising.
It’s the first time I tried to learn golf swing, after all of these, I think it is not bad to spend a whole day to improve it. And I will keep doing and see what will happen in the future.
