Okay, so today I decided to dig into the stats for a Yankees vs. Phillies game. I’ve always been a bit of a stats nerd, and I figured this would be a fun little project. Here’s how it went down:

Finding a Source
First things first, I needed to find a reliable place to get the player stats. I started to search on some sports websites for the box score and detailed game stats. I wanted to be sure I grabbed data I could trust and I wanted to choose a website that had a good breakdown, easy to view.
Getting the Data
Once I found the game data, I start to record the stats. Initially, I considered copying and pasting everything into a spreadsheet. But Then I needed to get into the real work.
Organizing the Stats
After I’ve collected the data, then I decided to create a summary of data.
- Started making a list for each team.
- Then make a table for player stats.
Checking and Double-Checking
After setting out all of the data, I went back and double-checked everything. There were couple of discrepancies I have when checking, it took me some time to find out.
All in all, it was a pretty satisfying deep dive. I’ve got a much better appreciation for all the work that goes into tracking this kind of stuff now!
