Okay, so today I decided to dive into this whole “Padres Slugger Juan Crossword” thing. I’d seen it pop up a few times, and honestly, I’m a sucker for a good puzzle. Plus, I’ve been trying to keep up with baseball a bit more this season, so it felt like a good fit.

First, I scoured the internet trying to find this specific crossword. It wasn’t as easy as I thought! I stumbled upon a few sites, but nothing quite like the clue of Juan Soto. So I refocused my goal to try to be the first to create it!
I started by brainstorming all the words I could associate with Juan Soto and the Padres. I jotted down things like:
- “SOTO” (duh!)
- “PADRES”
- “SLUGGER”
- “BASEBALL”
- “SAN DIEGO”
- “HOME RUN”
- “MLB”
- “OUTFIELD”
- “BATTING”
- “STADIUM”
Then, I grabbed a piece of paper and started sketching out a grid. I’m no crossword expert, so it was pretty basic. I tried to fit in the longer words first, like “SAN DIEGO” and “BASEBALL,” and then worked my way down to the shorter ones. It was a bit like a jigsaw puzzle, trying to get everything to interlock.
I spent a good hour messing around with different layouts, erasing and rewriting words, and generally getting frustrated. It’s harder than it looks! I realized pretty quickly that making a good crossword is a real skill.
The Big Moment
Finally, I managed to create something that resembled a crossword, albeit a very simple one. I filled in some easy clues, like “Team Juan Soto plays for” (PADRES) and “Type of hit Soto is known for” (HOME RUN).

It’s definitely not going to win any awards, but it was fun to try. It gave me a new appreciation for those crossword creators out there – they make it look so easy!
I learned that the clues are important and difficult to get right. I keep thinking the clue and the answer, back and forth.
I think next time I get better crossword tools to get the job done.
