Okay, so I’ve been hearing about this “shamble” thing in golf for a while now, and it sounded like fun. So, this past weekend, I finally tried it out with a few buddies. Let me tell you, it was a blast!

Getting Started
First, we had to figure out the teams. We were four guys, so we just did two-person teams. Pretty simple. We flipped a tee to decide who was with who, no big drama there.
Teeing Off – The Scramble Part
Here’s where the “shamble” starts to be different. Every player tees off like normal. Then, the magic happens. We all walked down the fairway, looked at where everyone’s balls landed, and picked the BEST drive. Seriously, it was like a team effort from the get-go. We marked that spot, and that’s where things got interesting.
Playing Our Own Balls
This is where it stops being a scramble. From that “best drive” location, everyone plays their OWN ball for the rest of the hole. We each took our shots, tracked our own scores, just like a regular round. So, you get the advantage of that awesome starting position, but you still have to earn your score.
The Aftermath and score
- One of my buddies, who usually struggles off the tee, absolutely crushed it thanks to the shamble format. It really boosted his confidence.
- I’m not gonna lie, my short game was a bit off that day,but I still felt great by the end of shamble.
- I shot a nice 85.
- It was way more relaxed than a typical round. Less pressure, more chatting, and more high-fives.
Final Thoughts
We definitely screwed up a couple of the “rules” along the way, but who cares? We had a great time, and that’s what matters. If you’re looking for a fun, less stressful way to play golf with your friends, I highly recommend giving the shamble format a shot. You might be surprised at how much you enjoy it!
