Okay, so today I decided to dig into the Pacers vs. Lakers game and pull out some player stats. I’ve been trying to get better at tracking this kind of stuff, so I figured, why not document the whole process?

Getting Started
First things first, I needed to find a reliable source for the game data. I’ve learned the hard way that not all websites are created equal when it comes to accurate stats. You know, some of them just can’t be trusted, and others are paywalled, I ended up going with the first thing to come up on my search.
Finding the Data
Once I got to the website, I looked around for the game. Found it! They had a pretty clear box score, which is exactly what I was looking for. It’s basically a table that shows all the key stats for each player.
Extracting the Info
Now for the fun part – getting the actual data.
I created a simple table list:

- Player Name: Who are we talking about?
- Points (PTS): How many points did they score?
- Rebounds (REB): How many rebounds did they grab?
- Assists (AST):How many successful passes to teammates?
- Steals (STL): Ball interceptions.
- Blocks (BLK): Blocked shots.
Then, player by player, I went down the box score and filled in my list. It was a bit tedious, copying down all of those number by hand!
Double-Checking Everything
After I had all the stats down, I went back and double-checked everything. It’s easy to make a mistake when you’re dealing with a bunch of numbers, and the last thing I wanted was to have inaccurate data.
After the tedious double-check. I finally get what I want!
That’s it, it is not a hard work, but need some patience.
