Tackling the Dreaded ‘Signing on for Adventure’ Screen
Alright, so the other day, I fired up Sea of Thieves, all ready to set sail, you know? Got my snacks ready, cleared my schedule. But then bam! Hit a wall. The game just sat there, stuck on the “Signing on for Adventure…” screen. Just looping, taunting me.

First thing I did? Patience. Thought maybe it’s just slow today. So I waited. And waited. Grabbed another drink. Still nothing. Okay, plan B.
Restarting the Basics
Closed the game completely. Not just Alt+F4, but made sure the process was dead in Task Manager (I’m on PC, by the way). Fired it back up. Same screen. Ugh.
Okay, maybe it’s the whole system. Did a full PC restart. Let everything load back up nice and fresh. Launched Sea of Thieves again. Nope. Still stuck. Getting a bit annoyed now.
Digging a Little Deeper
My internet seemed fine. Browsing websites, watching videos, no problem. But maybe something specific with the game connection? Checked the official Sea of Thieves status page (had to use my phone for that). Sometimes they post server issues there. Looked clear, though.

Next up, tried the usual Xbox app shenanigans:
- Signed out of the Xbox app completely.
- Signed back in.
- Launched the game through the Xbox app instead of my usual shortcut.
- Still no luck. That spinning wheel was becoming my enemy.
Then I thought, maybe the game files got messed up somehow? Went into the Steam settings (or the Xbox app settings if you got it there) and did the ‘Verify integrity of game files’ thing. It took a while, scanned everything. Found nothing wrong. Double ugh.
Network and Account Stuff
Getting desperate. Maybe it’s my network blocking something? Checked my firewall, made sure Sea of Thieves and the Xbox stuff were allowed through. They were. Temporarily disabled my antivirus just in case. No change.
Thought about resetting my router, but everything else was working fine, so I held off on that for a bit. Seemed unlikely.
Went back to the Microsoft Store and Xbox app. Signed out of everything Microsoft-related I could find. Restarted again. Signed back into the Store, then the Xbox app. Launched the game.

Finally, Progress!
And… it worked! It actually got past the “Signing on for Adventure” screen. I have no idea which specific step fixed it. Was it signing out of everything? Was it verifying files even though it said nothing was wrong? Was it just pure luck and the servers decided to let me in at that exact moment?
Honestly, couldn’t tell you for sure. It felt like a combination of poking it with a stick from different angles until it finally gave up. Super frustrating process, but man, the relief when I finally heard that main menu music kick in was huge. Just wanted to share the steps I took in case anyone else hits this annoying roadblock. Sometimes you just gotta try everything. Now, off to find some treasure!
