Okay, let’s talk about my little adventure with XDefiant and its size, the good old gigabytes (GB) question.

First Look and Prep
So, I heard about XDefiant, this new shooter game everyone seemed to be talking about. Looked kinda fun, like a mix of different styles. Decided I’d give it a whirl. First thing I always do, though, is check how much space it’s gonna eat up on my drive. My SSD isn’t exactly huge, you know?
I went looking for the download size. Found some numbers online, saw folks talking about it. Seemed like a pretty standard size for a modern game, maybe around 30-something GB for the initial download? But then you always gotta account for patches and the final install size, which can balloon up.
Checked my C: drive. Oof. Cutting it close. Knew I had to do some cleanup before even thinking about hitting that download button. Didn’t want the download failing halfway through ’cause of space issues. Been there, done that, not fun.
Making Space
Alright, time for the cleanup operation. Here’s basically what I did:
- Fired up the disk cleanup tool. Cleared out temporary files, recycle bin, the usual suspects.
- Uninstalled a couple of older games I hadn’t touched in months. Always feels a bit sad, but gotta make room.
- Moved some big media files – photos and videos – over to my external hard drive. That freed up a decent chunk.
- Checked my download folders. Amazing how much random stuff accumulates there. Deleted installers and old files I didn’t need anymore.
After all that, I managed to free up about 60 GB just to be safe. Felt much better about starting the download then.

The Download and Install
Opened up the Ubisoft Connect launcher (or whatever platform it was on, pretty sure it was Connect). Found XDefiant, hit download. The initial download size displayed was indeed around the 35 GB mark, like I’d seen mentioned.
The download itself went pretty smoothly. My internet speed isn’t the best, but it chugged along steadily. Took a couple of hours, maybe? I just let it run while I did other stuff.
Once downloaded, the installation process kicked in. This part also took a bit, unpacking files and getting everything set up. You know how it goes. Watched the progress bar slowly fill up.
Final Size Check
After everything was done, installed, and ready to launch, I did my final check. Went to the installation folder, right-clicked, properties. The final size on disk? It came out to be around 50 GB give or take. A bit bigger than the download, which is normal with decompression and all that jazz.
So yeah, started looking for around 35 GB download, needed about 50 GB installed. Had to clear about 60 GB to feel comfortable. Just my little journey getting XDefiant onto my machine, managing those gigabytes. Now, time to actually play the thing!
