Alright, so, Bronny James to UConn, huh? That’s the buzz. Everyone’s got an opinion, but lemme tell you about my own little UConn adventure. It ain’t about basketball stardom, more like coding in a dimly lit room kind of stardom, haha.
It all started when I stumbled across this old UConn course website, totally by accident. Was deep-diving into some AI stuff and BAM, there it was. Figured, “what the heck, might as well check it out.”
First thing I did? Scrolled through the syllabus. Looked like they were using Python, which I’m kinda comfy with. So, I went ahead and downloaded all the lecture notes and assignments I could get my hands on. Basically, I was tryna audit the whole course from the comfort of my own couch.
The Coding Begins!
Started with the basics. You know, the usual “hello world” kind of stuff, just to make sure I wasn’t completely out of my depth. Then, dove headfirst into the first assignment. It was some kinda image recognition thing. I remember thinking, “oh boy, this is gonna be rough.”
- Spent a good chunk of time just trying to set up my environment. Anaconda, TensorFlow, all that jazz. Always a pain, right?
- Then, actually trying to understand the code… Ugh. There were moments I felt like I was reading hieroglyphics. Googled SO MANY things.
- Eventually, after a lot of trial and error (and a few all-nighters fueled by instant coffee), I actually got something working! It wasn’t perfect, but it recognized cats in pictures, which I considered a major win.
Kept going through the assignments, one by one. Some were easier, some were absolute brain-melters. I remember one on natural language processing… I almost gave up. But, stubborn me, I kept at it.
One big challenge was that I didn’t have access to the UConn servers or anything. So, I had to figure out how to do everything locally. It was kinda limiting, but also forced me to learn how to optimize my code and manage my resources better.
The Result?
Did I get a certificate? Nah. Did I suddenly become an AI guru? Definitely not. But, I learned a TON. More importantly, I proved to myself that I could tackle something completely new and challenging, even without the “official” structure of a university course. And that feeling? That’s worth way more than a piece of paper.
So, yeah, while everyone’s buzzing about Bronny and UConn basketball, I’m over here celebrating my own little UConn coding victory. Maybe someday I’ll actually visit the campus. Until then, back to the keyboard!
