Figuring Out the Evans vs. St. Brown Deal
Alright, so I got tangled up thinking about who’s actually better between Mike Evans and Amon-Ra St. Brown the other day. You see these debates pop up, and I figured, lemme spend some real time on this myself, see what I come up with.

My first step was just pulling up their basic stats side-by-side. You know, the usual stuff: catches, yards, touchdowns. Right away, you see Evans has been doing this at a high level for way longer. Consistency is his middle name, hitting that 1,000-yard mark every single year. That’s kinda nuts when you think about it.
Then you look at St. Brown. Newer guy, but man, he exploded onto the scene. Especially last season, he was just a target hog. Catching everything thrown his way, mostly shorter stuff, but racking up crazy reception numbers. Totally different style from Evans’ downfield threat vibe.
Digging a Bit Deeper (and Getting Sidetracked)
So, stats are one thing, but I wanted to get a feel for how they play. Fired up some game film, well, mostly highlight reels on YouTube, let’s be honest. Evans is just a physical freak. Wins contested catches, high-points the ball like crazy. When he’s on, he looks uncoverable.
St. Brown, though, his game is built on precision, route running, finding those soft spots in the zone. He seems to always be open. It’s impressive in a different way. Not as many spectacular jump balls, but just consistent separation.
This whole thing actually started because my fantasy league commissioner, Jerry, drafted both of them in different leagues and wouldn’t shut up about who to start each week. Kept asking me. Drove me crazy. I told him, “Jerry, figure it out yourself!” But then it got me thinking. Spent half a Sunday afternoon looking this up instead of fixing that leaky faucet I promised my wife I’d handle. Oops.

Trying to Make Sense of It
Here’s the tricky part I ran into:
- Age and Experience: Evans has the long track record. You know what you’re getting. St. Brown is younger, maybe still improving? Hard to compare directly.
- Quarterbacks: Evans played with Brady, Jameis (who loved throwing deep), now Baker. St. Brown has had Goff, who’s pretty steady and peppers him with targets. Does the QB situation skew things? Probably.
- Role in Offense: Evans is the classic ‘X’ receiver, the deep threat. St. Brown is more of a slot/possession guy, volume-driven. They aren’t asked to do the exact same job.
So, after going back and forth, watching clips, staring at numbers… who do I think is better? It’s tough, man. They’re both elite at what they do.
If I need a guy who can win me a week with a couple of long touchdowns, maybe I lean Evans. His ceiling feels higher in that regard. But for dependable production, week in and week out, especially in formats that reward receptions, St. Brown feels like the safer bet right now. He just gets fed the ball constantly.
Honestly, it depends on what flavor you prefer. The long-term dominant force or the ridiculously consistent target machine. My gut feeling today? For reliability, I’m probably taking St. Brown. But man, Evans’ career is just legendary. Glad I don’t have to actually choose between them for a real team. Told Jerry to just flip a coin.
