Okay, so I’ve been sinking a fair bit of time into Tower of God: New World lately. Fun game, right? But like with any game with a ton of characters, you eventually hit that point where you start wondering, “Who should I really be focusing on?” That’s what got me started on trying to figure out a tier list based on my own playtime.

Getting Started: Just Playing A Lot
First things first, I just played the game. A lot. You can’t really judge characters without seeing them in action. I pushed through the story mode, tried climbing the tower (obviously!), messed around in the Arena, and tackled those boss fights. I made sure to try out different team combinations, even using characters I initially thought weren’t great, just to see what they offered.
Taking Notes and Noticing Patterns
As I played, I started taking some rough notes. Nothing fancy, just observations like:
- Who hits hard? Simple enough, looking at damage dealers.
- Who keeps the team alive? Tanks taking hits, healers doing their job.
- Who messes with the enemy? Characters stunning, pushing, or debuffing.
- Who seems useful everywhere vs. only in specific modes? Some characters shine in PvP but feel weak in story, or vice versa.
I paid attention to which characters seemed to consistently carry fights, and which ones felt like they were just filling a slot. It’s not super scientific at first, more like a gut feeling based on seeing them perform over and over again.
Trying to Group Them Up
After getting a decent feel for most of the characters I had access to, I started trying to group them. This was the messy part. I basically thought in terms of:
- Top Tier (S-Tier, maybe SS): The absolute game-changers. Characters you pretty much always want if you have them. They feel powerful, have great skills, and fit into lots of teams.
- Strong Tier (A-Tier): Really solid characters. Maybe not quite as broken as the top ones, but super effective and reliable. Often the core of many good teams.
- Decent Tier (B-Tier): Usable characters. They have their moments, work well in specific setups, or are good early on but might get replaced later. Not bad, but not amazing either.
- Situational/Lower Tier (C-Tier and below): Characters I found myself rarely using. Maybe they have a very niche use, or they just feel underpowered compared to others in the same role.
I literally just started listing characters under these rough headings. There was a lot of moving people around. “Okay, this guy felt strong, put him in A… hmm, actually, compared to that guy, maybe he’s more B tier?” It was a constant comparison process.

Checking My Work (Sort Of)
I didn’t just rely on my own runs. I peeked at what teams were beating me in the Arena. I watched a few gameplay videos online (without just copying their lists) to see if others were using characters in ways I hadn’t thought of. Sometimes seeing a character used effectively by someone else made me reconsider my initial placement. “Oh, that’s how you’re supposed to use them!” That led to more adjustments.
Final Thoughts on My List
So, after all that playing, observing, rough sorting, and adjusting, I landed on a list that felt right based on my experience. It’s important to remember this is just based on my time with the game. Tier lists are always a bit subjective. What works wonders for me might not fit your playstyle or the specific characters you happen to pull.
Also, games like this change! New characters get added, old ones get balanced. So, any list is just a snapshot in time. But going through this process really helped me understand the characters better and build more effective teams for myself. Hopefully, sharing this process gives you an idea of how you can evaluate characters too!
