Alright, let’s talk about them football fellas, the ones who got hurt real bad, you know, the ones whose careers went poof! Like, they were playing and then BAM! No more football. It’s a dang shame, I tell ya.
Them fellas who got their legs messed up
Some of these boys, they run real fast and then somethin’ snaps. Like that Terrell Davis fella. People don’t talk about him much now, but he was a good runner. Real good. But then, his body just gave out, I guess. He didn’t run so much after that. And that Bo Jackson, he was somethin’ else too, strong as an ox and fast as a rabbit. But his hip, it got all messed up, and that was the end of that. These young fellas, they push their bodies too hard, I reckon.
And the knees! Oh, the knees! Seems like every game somebody’s grabbin’ at their knee, yellin’ in pain. I heard tell that the knee is the worst thing to get messed up in football. Ankle too, I guess. It’s all that twistin’ and turnin’, I imagine. They plant that foot and then WHAM! Somethin’ goes wrong. You see ’em limpin’ off the field, and you just know, sometimes you just know, that’s the last time you gonna see ’em play.
- Kevin Everett: This boy, he tried to tackle somebody and ended up hurtin’ his neck somethin’ awful. Never played again, poor thing.
- Mike Utley: Tough as nails, they say. Played every game one year, then got hurt bad. Just like that, gone.
Quarterbacks ain’t safe either
You’d think them quarterbacks, they’d be safe, standin’ back there throwin’ the ball. But nope. They get smacked around too. That Daunte Culpepper fella, he was a good thrower for the Vikings. But he got hurt, and then he just wasn’t the same after that. And that Brett Favre, now there was a tough one. Played for years, took a beatin’ every game, I bet. He said he got concussed, what they call it, a bunch of times. That can’t be good for ya, I’m thinkin’. Head injuries, they scary. They say quarterbacks mostly get messed up in the upper body, shoulders and such. But sometimes, somethin’ worse happens.
It’s a rough game, that football
I seen some real bad injuries on that TV screen. That Darryl Stingley, oh lord, that was terrible. Broke his neck, they said. Just awful. You watch these games, and you see these big, strong fellas gettin’ knocked around, and you just hope they don’t get hurt too bad. But sometimes, they do. And sometimes, it’s the end of the road for ‘em.
I heard tell some fella named Tua got hurt bad not too long ago. Walked off the field, they say, but still. You never know what’s gonna happen. It’s a dangerous game, that football. They risk their bodies every time they step on that field. And for what? For money, I guess. And for the glory. But it ain’t worth it if you can’t walk right no more, or if your head’s all scrambled. These fellas, they put their bodies on the line, and sometimes, they pay a heavy price. It ain’t right, but that’s just the way it is, I suppose.
More than just a game
You know, it ain’t just about the game itself. These injuries, they can last a lifetime. Some of these fellas, they can’t even play with their kids or grandkids after they done playin’ football. They walkin’ with a limp, or they got pain all the time. It ain’t right, I tell ya. They give their all for the game, and then they got nothin’ left. It makes you think, it really does. Is it all worth it in the end?
And it’s not just football, you know. I heard tell that basketball has even more injuries. Can you believe that? All that runnin’ and jumpin’, I guess it takes a toll. These sports, they entertain us, but they can be cruel to the fellas who play ‘em. We cheer ‘em on, and then we forget about ‘em when they get hurt. It ain’t right, I tell ya.
Makes you think
So next time you watchin’ that football game, and you see one of them fellas get hurt, just remember, it ain’t just a game to them. It’s their livelihood, their passion, and sometimes, it’s their downfall. They young men, most of ‘em, with their whole lives ahead of ‘em. And then, in one play, it can all be gone. It’s a sad thing, really. A real sad thing. Makes you appreciate the healthy ones, that’s for sure. And makes you hope they all get to walk away with their bodies and minds intact.
