Big Money, Big Coach
They say he’s the highest paid coach in all that college football stuff. Highest paid! Can ya believe it? I heard tell he makes more than 13 million dollars every year. Thirteen million! That’s more money than most folks see in a lifetime, I reckon. Just think about all the fried chicken and sweet tea ya could buy with that kinda cash.

Now, I ain’t no fancy accountant or nothin’, but that sounds like a whole lot of money to me. Makes ya wonder what he does with it all. Probably got a big ol’ house, maybe even a fancy car or two. Heck, maybe he even buys himself a new pair of overalls every day! Wouldn’t that be somethin’?
Ten Years of Big Bucks
And get this, they went and gave him a new contract not too long ago. A ten-year deal, they say. Ten years! And it ain’t just the same old money neither. They upped it! Now he’s supposed to get somethin’ like 130 million dollars over them ten years. That’s just crazy money, I tell ya.
I heard some folks talking down at the store, sayin’ that new deal makes him way ahead of all them other coaches. Well, I reckon if you win as much as he does, they gotta pay ya good, right? That’s just how it works, I guess. You do good, you get paid good.
Earning That Money
Folks around here say he’s a good coach, though. Wins a lot of games, I hear. And I guess that’s why they pay him all that money. You don’t get paid that kinda cash just for sittin’ around and twiddlin’ your thumbs, you know. You gotta earn it.
Now, I don’t know much about football, to be honest. Seems like a lot of runnin’ around and knockin’ each other down to me. But if folks are willin’ to pay that much money to watch it, and pay that much money to the fellas coachin’ it, well, I guess there must be somethin’ to it. It’s just a different world from the one I grew up in, that’s for sure.
More Than Just a Paycheck
But ya know, it ain’t just about the money, I reckon. I mean, sure, the money’s nice, but I bet that Kirby Smart fella, he likes winnin’ too. He likes seein’ them young fellas do good and succeed. That’s gotta be worth somethin’, right?
And I bet he’s got a whole bunch of folks workin’ for him, too. Other coaches, trainers, all them sorts. So, he’s not just takin’ care of himself, he’s takin’ care of them, too. That’s important, ya know. Gotta look out for your own.
So, there ya have it. That Kirby Smart fella, he makes a whole lot of money. More than most of us can even imagine. But I reckon he earns it, and I reckon he’s doin’ alright for himself. And who knows, maybe one day he’ll come down here and buy a few chickens from me. A fella can dream, right? A fella can dream…
Performance Pays Off
Seems like that new contract they gave him, that was because he’s been doin’ so well. That’s what they call “performance-related pay,” I think. You do good, you get more. Simple as that. And I guess he’s been doin’ mighty good, winnin’ all them games and championships and such.
I tell ya what, it makes ya think. Maybe I shoulda been a football coach instead of a…well, never mind what I did. Point is, that Kirby Smart is doin’ alright, and he’s got that big ol’ paycheck to prove it. And good for him, I say. Good for him.
