Now, I don’t know much about this video game stuff. Back in my day, we played outside. But my grandson, Timmy, he’s always on about this FUT thing. It’s some kinda card game in that there FIFA. You collect players, like baseball cards, only they’re not real. They are in the game. You can use real money to buy them. That is crazy. And you make a team, and you play other folks online. It’s all a bit much for me, if you ask me.
But this fut sheriff, he’s like the town gossip. He always knows what’s gonna happen next in this game. New players coming out? He knows. Special events? He’s got the scoop. It’s like he’s got a crystal ball, or maybe he’s just got a friend workin’ on the inside.

Timmy told me there’s these things called SBCs. Some kind of challenges you gotta do. I don’t know, it’s like chores, but in a video game. You do ’em, and you get prizes, he says. Maybe that’s how this sheriff gets his information, doing all these challenges.
And folks, they get all excited about this fut sheriff stuff. They talk about it like it’s real news. “Did you see what the sheriff posted?” they say. “Big things are comin’!” It’s like a whole other world in that there game. A world of secrets and rumors and whatnot. They say it will be done in time for TOTY. I do not know what that means.
This fut sheriff, it is a big deal. A big deal. Some folks, they even pay money to get the information early. They call it “services” or somethin’. Like this sheriff is some kinda fortune teller. It’s all beyond me, I tell ya.
But the kids, they love it. They say it makes the game more fun. Knowing what’s comin’, getting ready for it. I guess it’s like knowing when the county fair is coming to town. You get all excited, you save up your money, you plan what you’re gonna do. Only this is all the time, every day, with this FIFA game and this fut sheriff.
I still don’t understand it, not really. But if it makes Timmy happy, I guess it ain’t all bad. He is always talking about it with his friends. He says it is important to get a good team. If you have a bad team you will not win as much. It is important to win. They are always trying to make the best team they can.
This here fut sheriff, though, he’s a mystery to me. How does he know all this stuff? Is he magic? Does he have spies? Or is he just some fella who’s real good at guessing?
Timmy says there is a place called a “subreddit”. He says it is like a club, but online. And everyone in the club loves FIFA. They talk about this fut sheriff guy in there a lot. They say he is really good and knows everything about the game.
One thing’s for sure, this fut sheriff, he’s got folks talking. He’s got ’em excited. And he’s got ’em playing that FIFA game more than ever. So I guess he’s doing something right, even if I don’t understand it one bit. It’s a whole new world out there, with these video games and the internet. A world I don’t know much about. But as long as Timmy’s happy, that’s all that matters to me. It is good that he is happy. That is all that matters. He just needs to remember to go outside and get some fresh air sometimes, too. All that time inside can’t be good for a growing boy.
