Well, ya wanna know if Sam Hoiberg is related to Fred Hoiberg? Lemme tell ya, that’s a mighty simple answer—yes, they sure are! Sam is Fred’s son, and it ain’t no secret ’round these parts that Fred Hoiberg, the old NBA fella, is now the coach of the Nebraska Cornhuskers men’s basketball team. He’s been a big deal in the basketball world for a long time, y’know? Now, ain’t it somethin’ special that he’s got his own son playin’ on the same team? Must be real proud of that boy, I tell ya.
Now, Fred Hoiberg, he’s been around the block a few times. Born in 1972 in Ames, Iowa, he grew up playin’ basketball and got real good at it. Played college ball at Iowa State University—he even earned the nickname “the Mayor” back in his college days! And ya know, he wasn’t just a local hero, he went on to play in the big leagues, the NBA. Played with teams like the Indiana Pacers, the Chicago Bulls, and the Minnesota Timberwolves. Had a good run till his heart condition caught up with him, but he didn’t give up. Now he’s coachin’, and what’s even better, he gets to coach his own son, Sam!
Sam, well he ain’t just sittin’ back, he’s out there playin’ his part, too. Born on March 21, 2003, in Chicago, Illinois, he’s been playin’ for the Cornhuskers as a forward. Now, Sam’s been out there on the court for about 32 games so far, and he’s been holdin’ his own with an average of 3.4 points and 2.9 rebounds a game. Not bad for a young fella just makin’ his way in the world, eh? He’s still got a lotta time to grow and improve, but if ya ask me, he’s got the right coach to show him the ropes!
It’s funny, though. Sam ain’t the only one in the Hoiberg family who’s gotten some attention. Fred and his wife Carol, they’ve got four kids in total. Along with Sam, they got Paige, Jack, and Charlie. Seems like they’re keepin’ themselves busy with all them young’uns runnin’ around. But I reckon Sam’s the one folks are keepin’ an eye on, given his dad’s big role in the basketball world.
But let’s not forget that Fred ain’t just any coach, he’s got quite a history of his own. Besides his NBA career, he’s had his own health struggles. Turns out, he was born with an abnormal aortic valve, and he’s had a couple of surgeries over the years to try and fix that. It even ended his NBA career earlier than he might’ve liked, but that didn’t stop him. Fred’s tough, and now he’s back, not playin’ but coachin’, which in some ways is even better ’cause now he gets to share the court with his son.
It sure is a special thing to see a father and son playin’ together on the same team. Y’know, most people don’t get that chance, so Fred must be feelin’ like the luckiest guy in the world. There’s somethin’ about watchin’ your own flesh and blood workin’ hard and doin’ their best on the court that brings a tear to yer eye. I reckon both Fred and Sam know how rare and precious this moment is.
So, in short, Sam Hoiberg and Fred Hoiberg are definitely related. They’re father and son, and they’re both part of the Nebraska Cornhuskers men’s basketball team, which makes for quite the family story. Ain’t it somethin’ to watch Fred coach his own boy? Bet that’s a memory they’ll both treasure forever, no matter how things turn out on the court. And who knows? Maybe one day Sam’ll be the one coachin’ his own young’uns, just like his daddy!
