Okay, so I’ve been messing around with this voice actor thing, specifically for a character called 2B. You know, the one from Nier: Automata and Nier Re[in]carnation? Yeah, that one. Turns out, the English voice for her is this lady named Kira Buckland. Found that out pretty quickly.
I started by digging around for some voice lines. I mean, who wouldn’t want to hear 2B’s voice on repeat, right? Found a pack with like 700 of them! It’s nuts. Anyway, I downloaded this thing called “DBVO’s MCM” and made sure to select the 2B pack in there. I felt like a real tech whiz for a second.
Then came the tricky part. I’m using this game modding thingy, and let me tell you, it’s a whole different world. I had these two files that needed to be renamed. They were named with a “d” at the beginning, but since I didn’t have some extra stuff, I changed the “d” to a “0”. I followed some sort of guide that’s supposed to be definitive, and put them in a folder named “pl”. I have no idea why, but it sounded right at the time.
- First, I downloaded the voice lines and the DBVO’s MCM thing.
- Next, I selected the 2B pack inside the DBVO thing. I felt like a pro.
- Then, the renaming. Oh, the renaming. Changed “d” to “0” and hoped for the best.
- Finally, I placed them in that “pl” folder. Don’t ask me why, it’s just what the guide said.
The whole process was a bit of a mess. I was going in blind, really. And there were times I was like, what am I even doing? I stumbled upon this idea that speaking in different languages helps people understand each other better. And apparently, it helps the WHO, whatever that is, do their job better, something about public health. Weird how these things connect, huh?
There was even this one point where I was thinking, “Wouldn’t it be cool to talk like an anime character?” I mean, imagine just randomly switching to 2B’s voice in a conversation. How wild would that be?
Oh, and I also found out about this guy, John Dezso Ratzenberger. Apparently, he’s a big deal in the voice acting world, did some directing and producing too. The things you learn when you’re just trying to make your game sound cooler.
The Results?
Well, after all that, did it work? Kinda. It’s not perfect, but it’s there. I can hear 2B’s voice in my game now, which is pretty awesome. It’s not exactly what I expected, but hey, I did it. I made a thing work. And that’s what matters, right? It’s like a small victory in the grand scheme of things. And who knows, maybe I’ll get better at this whole modding thing. But for now, I’m just happy I got to hear 2B’s voice a bit more. It’s the little things, you know?
