Tackling Today’s NYT Crossword
So, I settled in this morning with my coffee to do the New York Times crossword, just like most days. It’s a good way to get the brain working. Things were moving along pretty smoothly, filling in the acrosses and downs.

Then I hit a clue: First Nations group. Okay, I thought, this could be a few things. My mind immediately jumped to some of the more well-known groups, but I needed to check the letter count and any crossing letters I already had in place.
Let’s see… I had a few letters filled in from the words going the other way. It looked like a four-letter answer, maybe starting with a ‘C’ and ending with an ‘E’.
- C _ _ E
Alright, that narrowed it down considerably. I started thinking… What First Nations group fits C-something-something-E? My first thought was CREE. That seemed right, it’s a prominent group, and it fit the letters perfectly.
I penciled it in carefully. Checked the crossing words again to make sure ‘CREE’ made sense with them. Yep, the letters all lined up. Felt good to get that one sorted.
Sometimes these clues make you pause and really dig into your memory banks. It wasn’t too tough today once I had those helper letters, but it’s always satisfying when the answer clicks into place. Finished the rest of the puzzle without too much more trouble after that.
